Division Stats Tier List by Importance
Division Stat Tier List in Hearts of Iron IV
Which designer stats actually decide fights, which ones matter by situation, and which you can mostly ignore — a subjective ranking by importance.
At a glance
- This is the author’s subjective take: stats are ranked by how much they matter inside a division.
- S — without these, a template usually falls apart or fails its job.
- A — high impact, but not in every division and not in every war.
- B — useful, often secondary next to S and A.
- F — barely worth staring at when building a frontline template, except for niche jobs like garrisons.
How to read this tier list
A tier list is not a law of physics. Tanks care about different numbers than defensive infantry. The ranking here is: how often a stat breaks or saves a division for most players.
If you’re new and don’t know what to watch in the designer — start with tier S. Get solid S-tier stats and you can already fight. Tiers A and B get tuned to the template’s role and what’s happening on the front.

What each tier means
| Tier | Meaning | Beginner mental note |
|---|---|---|
| S | Division core | “If this is broken, the template is usually bad” |
| A | Strong situational layer | “Need this for tanks, vs tanks, or vs air” |
| B | Nice and useful | “I tune this once the base is already fine” |
| F | Barely for the front | “I only check this for garrisons or a very niche case” |
How to use it in practice
- Line infantry: Organization, Defense, Soft Attack, Combat Width, and Supply Use first.
- Tanks: Max Speed, Breakthrough, Organization, Supply Use; then Armor, Piercing, Hard Attack.
- Don’t obsess over tier F: Suppression matters for garrisons, not for a breakthrough spearhead.
- Tier A is not “weak”: Air Attack doesn’t belong in S, but under a CAS carpet you’ll feel it missing.
One-line takeaway
Lock down tier S first — that’s the division’s frame. Tune A and B to the template’s role, and don’t confuse F with frontline priorities.
