Division Reinforcement Speed in Hearts of Iron IV
Your division took losses — now it needs men and gear again. How fast that happens, and what to do to make it faster.
Quick take
What it is. Reinforcement speed is how quickly a division gets soldiers and equipment back after losses and fills up again.
How it works. Soldiers come from free Manpower at the top of the screen; equipment comes from the stockpile. Then it travels to the division along supply from the capital. No men, no rifles, or no supply path — the division stays understrength for a long time.
Why it matters. A half-empty division hits weaker than a full one. Want the front back on its feet faster — build what the army needs, don’t park it with no supply, and give important divisions high reinforcement priority.
What division reinforcement speed is in HoI4
You sent a division into combat. It lost men and equipment. On the division icon you can see it is no longer full — Fighting Strength is below 100%.
The game starts feeding it new soldiers and new equipment so the division fills up again. Reinforcement speed is simply this: does the division fill up fast, or does it sit half-empty for ages.
Don’t mix it up with Organization. Organization is “is the division too tired to fight.” It climbs when the division sits and rests. Reinforcement is when men and guns actually arrive in the division.
How division reinforcement speed works
It goes in four steps:
- The division is understrength — it is short on soldiers and/or equipment.
- The game checks: is there free Manpower (the people number at the top of the screen) and the right gear in the stockpile?
- If yes — soldiers and equipment travel to the division along supply from the capital.
- They arrive — the division is fuller again, Fighting Strength goes up.
No rifles in the stockpile — the division waits for factories to build them. Gear is already there but still in transit — it waits for delivery. The division is encircled or has no supply from the capital — reinforcement stops. Stockpile can be full and the division still stays empty.
The worse the supply on the front and the more overloaded the logistics, the longer reinforcement takes. When gear is scarce for everyone, Elite priority divisions get it first, then normal ones, then Reserves.
Why it matters
A half-empty division fights worse than a full one. Fewer men and less gear — weaker punch, easier to smash.
If reinforcement is slow, after hard fights the front “hangs”: divisions are on the map, but there is no strength in them yet. Fast reinforcement means after a meat grinder the units get back into shape and you can keep attacking or hold the line.
How to increase division reinforcement speed
- Build what the front is missing. No rifles or tanks in the stockpile — divisions will wait a long time. Check what is short and put military factories on it.
- Don’t run out of people. Top bar — Manpower. If that is zero, there are no new soldiers to send into divisions.
- Keep supply to the division. With no path from the capital, reinforcement will not arrive. Fix railways, ports, supply hubs — so there is a real road to the front.
- Don’t cram too many divisions into one tight spot. Supply can’t keep up — reinforcement moves slower. Sometimes fewer divisions that fill up faster is better.
- Set important divisions to Elite priority. Scarce gear goes to them first. Keep garrisons and rear units on Reserves so they don’t steal tanks from assault troops.
- Don’t spam divisions forever. A hundred half-empty units refill slower than a few properly supplied ones.
- Put a Field Hospital on assault divisions. Some of the wounded return, so the division loses fewer men overall.
Tips
- After a fight, check Fighting Strength. If it stays low — check the stockpile, Manpower at the top, and supply to the division.
- Refill strong divisions first, then train new ones. Otherwise everything stays half-empty forever.
- Don’t put Elite on everyone. If everything is Elite — there is no priority, everyone is equal again.
Bottom line: reinforcement speed is how fast a division gets soldiers and equipment back after losses. To speed it up: build the weapons you need, keep Manpower, fix supply from the capital, and send scarce gear to important divisions with Elite priority.
