How to find rebreather and stun gun
Difficulty: 5/10 | Time: 10-15 minutes.
📋 What to Bring
- Modern Axe / Spear / Machete / Bow — good weapons for this stage.
- Pills — 2-3 pieces, in case of mistakes in combat.
- Armor — 4-6 pieces of Bone Armor.
Briefly:
- Find the cave entrance. It's located on the beach where the helicopter sometimes crashes at the start of the game. Also, the machete lies on this beach.
- After entering, take the data from the laptop about the bunker, run forward to the small waterfall.
- Neutralize several "Puffies" and "Fingers", then run left to the end. On the right, pick up the rebreather.
- Return to the waterfall and turn your back to it. Run forward and right to the end.
- Neutralize several "Puffies", "Fingers", and "Babies" along the way. At the end, a victim will be hanging from the ceiling, and next to him is the stun gun.

📍 Path to the Cave
- You need to run to the beach that has a cave icon on the map (img. 1). The beach is west of the starting beach if you turn your back to the ocean on the starting beach. This is also one of the possible helicopter crash sites at the start of the game. Also, the machete lies on this beach.
- After arriving at the beach, head to its eastern part. There will be operatives on stakes by the water. Run to the rocks where the cave icon is on the map (img. 2). This is the cave you need — "Coastal Cave A" — enter it.
⚔️ Actions Inside the Cave
- After entering the cave, there will be an area with supplies and a laptop. Red light emanates from the laptop. Run to it and hold "E". This will add the location of one of the story bunkers — the "Entertainment Bunker" — to your map (img. 3).
- Run forward to the waterfall. The area before the waterfall is safe; after it, mutants await (img. 4). Beyond the waterfall are 3-5 "Puffies" and 1-2 "Fingers". If you have a grenade, throw 1-2 into the group of mutants. A good throw can send 1-3 mutants to the next world. Neutralize them and strip the creepy armor from the "Fingers" — this armor is the best in the game. You can also run past the mutants without fighting, staying to the left wall, but be careful: they might still hit you a couple of times.
- Before you is a fork (img. 5): left — rebreather, right — stun gun. The path to the rebreather is much easier than to the stun gun, so I recommend starting with it.
- Turn left and run to the end — you won't encounter any enemies along the way. At the end, there will be a semi-aquatic area: a body of water in the center, rocks on the right.
- Near these rocks lies the rebreather (img. 6). If you wish, you can exit the cave right now by simply diving into the water and swimming to the end — you'll emerge in the open ocean. IMPORTANT the body of water is guarded by a shark. Slightly to the left are limbs you can use as bait (img. 7). Pick them up, hold RMB to throw. Throw the limbs far away — the shark will be distracted, and you can swim past without risk.
⚠️ THE MOST DANGEROUS AREA
On the way to the stun gun, you'll encounter: 2-4 "Puffies", 1-2 "Fingers", and 4-6 "Babies". The babies are small and fast — easy to miss.
▶ TACTICS: Run without stopping down the center. The babies won't catch you, and larger mutants lose interest after 30-40 meters or get stuck.
💡 At the end, a victim will be hanging with the stun gun nearby. The pickup animation lasts 4-6 seconds — during this time you cannot attack or block, only move (img. 8). Make sure no enemies are nearby, or that you can dodge their attacks, before picking it up.
- If you decide to continue through the cave and grab the stun gun: go along the left wall back to the fork you came from (img. 5). Turn left into the part of the cave you haven't been in yet.
- Go forward — you'll encounter enemies along the way (see block above). Running past or neutralizing them is up to you.
- At the end, a victim will be hanging from the ceiling — next to him hangs the stun gun.
🚪 Cave Exit and Next Steps
- After picking up the stun gun, run back the way you came, hugging the left wall.
- When you reach the waterfall, climb up it and run forward. You'll enter a safe zone — run to the end.
- You'll reach the cave exit.
🌊 Rebreather: Full Overview
Rebreather — one of the most important tools for surviving on the island. Even though the main events take place on land, diving gear becomes essential for exploring flooded caves. It's in these caves that terrifying monsters and extremely useful routes and items are hidden.
Core Features
- The rebreather allows you to breathe underwater, enabling you to safely explore any body of water and flooded sections of caves. For example, it's necessary to obtain the shovel — one of the key items for story progression.
Additional Functions
- Besides providing oxygen, the rebreather also acts as a headlamp, illuminating submerged areas. This helps with orientation in complete darkness underwater, where it's easy to get lost without a light source.
Equipment and Usage
- To activate the rebreather, simply dive into the water — it automatically equips. An important advantage: it doesn't take up equipment slots, meaning you can wear it along with other weapons or tools. Leaving the rebreather on has no negative effects.
Tank Replacement
- When the rebreather runs out of air, it automatically uses a spare tank from your inventory. This happens underwater without needing to surface. Just keep track of how many spare tanks you have before diving.
💎 Additional Tips
- The rebreather is critically important when exploring the shovel cave — without it, you simply won't reach your goal. I recommend always carrying at least 1-2 spare tanks before any serious dive. The rebreather's headlamp doesn't blind and consumes no extra energy, so you can use it as your main light source in flooded tunnels.
⚡ Stun Gun: Full Overview
Stun Gun — a ranged weapon in Sons of the Forest. It allows you to temporarily immobilize enemies, giving you time to attack, escape, or regroup. The stun gun model is based on the real TASER X26 — a yellow plastic body with a black tip.
Ammunition and Reloading
- The stun gun requires special ammunition — stun gun cartridges. You can only load one cartridge at a time. After each use, you must reload, even if you missed. Cartridges can be found in loot crates and in most locations: forests, beaches, mountains, bunkers, caves, and downed helicopters. IMPORTANT during reload, the flashlight is put away, making it inconvenient in caves.
Usage Against Enemies
- The weapon only works at close to medium range (3-7 meters). When an enemy is successfully stunned, they stop moving and fall to the ground, becoming completely vulnerable. "Fingers", "Puffies", and other mutants have their own stun animations. Enemies remain immobilized for about 6–8 seconds — enough time to finish them off, escape, or switch weapons.
Gameplay Features
- A successful hit temporarily immobilizes the target, which can give you time to avoid danger or escape a crowd. The stun gun is especially useful against fast enemies that are hard to hit with normal weapons ("Puffies", "Fingers", and "Legsies").
💎 Additional Tips
- Don't use the stun gun as your primary weapon — it's more of a tactical tool for controlling single enemies or saving yourself in critical situations. Keep it for encounters with dangerous mutants ("Fingers", "Legsies"): a few seconds of immobility will allow you to deal critical damage or retreat to a safe distance. Always keep track of how many cartridges you have in your inventory — without them, the stun gun is useless.
