📍 Path to the Machete
- Run to the beach where the rebreather cave is located — "Coastal Cave A". This area is also one of the possible helicopter crash sites at the start of the game.
- Turn your back to the water and run left toward the rocks (img. 1).
- As you approach, you'll see a tent campsite and a living operative holding a flare gun (img. 2).
- Next to the operative lies the machete. There are also plenty of supplies nearby that will be very helpful, especially early in the game.
🔪 Machete: Full Overview
Machete — a weapon and tool that combines speed and damage. It excels in melee combat thanks to its high attack speed, moderate range, and medium damage. Whether you're fighting off enemies or cutting through the forest, the machete will become an indispensable asset in your survival arsenal. It's especially effective against fast-moving foes.
Solafite Upgrade
- The machete can be upgraded with 6 units of solafite at the solafite upgrade table. You'll get a golden-tipped blade with a moderate damage increase. The upgraded machete handles armored enemies noticeably better.
Usage Tips
- Aim for weak spots: targeting the head or limbs results in quicker kills, preserving your stamina in tough situations.
- Combos: use the high attack speed to unleash rapid strikes. This stuns natives and prevents them from counterattacking.
- Mobility: stay mobile during fights. The machete allows fast movement to dodge attacks.
- IMPORTANTOn maximum difficulty, your stamina may not be enough to take down an enemy in one go.
Effectiveness
- Damage:
- • "Native" (No Armor) — 7 hits
- • "Puffy" — 8 hits
- • "Fingers" — 13 hits
- • "Legsy" — 35 hits
- • "Twins" — 16 hits
- • "Demon" — 14 hits
Combat Effectiveness
- Attack Speed: high speed allows multiple rapid strikes, overwhelming enemies.
- Range: the machete isn't as long as a spear, but offers a good balance between reach and maneuverability.
- Damage: the machete deals significant damage, easily cutting through unarmored foes. Against armored enemies, its effectiveness drops — you'll want something stronger, like the modern or firefighter axe.
Resource Gathering and Building
- Resource gathering: use the machete to cut through foliage, clear paths, and collect sticks and leaves. Much faster than using an axe or spear.
- Building: the machete can help sharpen sticks for certain structures and traps.
- Solafite coating: applying a solafite coating to the machete increases its damage against enemies.
Inventory and Quick Access
- To equip the machete, open your inventory and find it in the melee weapons section. For quick access, add it to your quick-select menu or assign a hotkey (hover over the machete in inventory and press any number from 1 to 9).
💎 Additional Tips
- The machete is a weapon for an aggressive playstyle. It's ideal for clearing weak-to-medium enemies. However, against large foes ("Fingers", "Legsy", "Demons"), it's better to use a shotgun or crossbow. Combine the machete with other weapons: damage enemies with a shot, then finish them with the machete. And don't forget about the solafite upgrade in the late game — the golden machete not only looks flashy but also noticeably improves combat performance. That said, upgrading the katana or firefighter axe should be a higher priority.
